Prenatal Consultations
Getting breastfeeding off to a good start is important. At your prenatal visit, you will gain the confidence and knowledge to support your decision to breastfeed. Together we will discuss your questions as well as review:
- What to expect and aim for in the first hours after birth (e.g. skin to skin contact)
- How to guide your baby to latch effectively
- Managing your breast milk supply, especially what you need to know in the first week
- Reading your baby’s cues for feeding, sleeping and comfort
- How to know if your baby is getting enough nourishment
- How to tell when breastfeeding is going well and what to do if it is not
Postnatal Consultations
Breastfeeding constantly evolves as your baby grows. Whether you have been breastfeeding for one day or for several months, I will provide reassuring breastfeeding support and effective strategies. Some common concerns you may want help with include:
- Nipple or breast pain
- Low milk supply and supplementation
- Pumping and feeding expressed milk or supplements
- Long or frequent feeds
- Breastfeeding after breast surgery
- Baby's slow weight gain
- Recurring blocked ducts, mastitis, infections
- Return to work, advice on introducing complementary foods
